Autumn Breaks in the Scottish Borders

Abbotsford was the residence of novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott, a kinsman of the Scott’s of Buccleuch and frequent dweller of Bowhill.

Open all year round, whether you take a wander round the regal gardens in the autumn light or tour the imposing House itself, a magical experience is sure to be shared by all.

Perhaps one of Scotland’s biggest biking hotspots, the Tweed Valley offers endless two-wheeled fun for all the family.

Visit Glentress 7 Stanes Centre, the recent host of the cross-country mountain biking UCI World Championships. Where better to ride than the trails made for the pros? With many accessible loops, Glentress is perfect for a great family day out on the trails.

Or perhaps you want to push your limits with some extreme downhill riding? Face the technical, steep trails of Innerleithen with Adrenalin Uplift or find some off-piste routes crafted by the locals.

Only a 20 minute drive from Bowhill, The Great Tapestry of Scotland is well worth a visit. Made up of 160 linen panels and 300 miles of wool, the tappestry is now on permanent display in it’s purpose-built gallery and visitor centre in the town of Galashiels.

Not only will you see the incredible artistry of the tapestry, the gallery holds various changing exhibitions throughout the year. Plus this Autumn, a visit from the 7th-16th October sees kids go free!

Get your boots on and take to the hills, rivers and woodlands for some liberating countryside walks.

The Scottish Borders boasts magnificent vantage points of the incredible scenery of southern Scotland, with a multitude of walking paths and routes to discover.

Selkirk lies the closest town to Bowhill, standing high above the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys. With winding roads and a historical high street, kickstart your travels with a scenic stop in Selkirk.
